House of the Day: Loch House Featured on 'Grand Designs'

Grand Designs Loch House
In the first episode of 'Grand Designs' season 6, Jim and Simone Fairfull set out to build their dream home for their family in Stilwater, Killearn, Scotland.

With a budget of £500,000, the couple poured all of their dreams and design ideas into this loch house when they built it back in 2006, so it was a bit surprising to see it listed for sale. They did end up spending close to £1,000,000 on the build, so maybe they've set out to find a cheaper place to live.

Have a look at the pictures of this unique loch house, and I've even included the full 'Grand Designs' episode below.

"Jim Fairfull considers himself a very lucky guy.
He was out fishing with a friend when he came across a beautiful, secluded loch.
It's a magical place with stunning views over the nearby hills.
He got chatting to the farmer who owned it and discovered the site was for sale.
Within a week, he'd done a deal and bought the land.

Located on a 6.39-acre lot and perched over a private loch, this 5 bedroom, two story house, called Stilwater, was designed by McInnes Gardner Architects. With an open floor plan, large floor to ceiling glass windows, the use of transparent and reflective materials, the house was designed around the stunning views.

Downstairs there's a  reception hallway that is open plan with the zodiac kitchen, dining area and lounge. Features such as walnut flooring, a massive fish tank that separate the sitting room from the kitchen, French doors opening to the terrace, and an open fireplace gives the home a luxurious feel.
There's also an en suite bedroom on this floor.

An unique and stunning floating glass staircase leads you upstairs, where there are four bedrooms, three of which are en suite. The master suite has stunning loch views, a private terrace, two walk in closets and a bathroom with Jacuzzi and shower room.

Wrapped around the house there's a terrace, perfect for entertaining and enjoying the views. And the property invites you to live an active lifestyle. How about fishing in the 2,5-acre loch that is stocked with rainbow trout.

The property was listed asking for offers in  excess of £1,250,000, and it's currently under offer.
Enjoy the pictures  of Stilwater here, and if you're watching the video tour below and just want to see the end result, skip to 36:00.
